CAPTAIN EDWARD JOSEPH LYNCH

Edward Joseph Lynch was born on September 29, 1936, in Pennsylvania. He entered the United States Air Force Academy as a member of the historic inaugural Class of 1959, where he was assigned to Cadet Squadron 12 (CS-12). Upon graduating on June 3, 1959, he completed Squadron Officer School (SOS) and entered undergraduate pilot training at Webb Air Force Base, Texas, from 1959 to 1960.
Following pilot training, he served at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, in 1960 and underwent F-100 fighter training at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, in 1961. He was subsequently stationed overseas as an operational pilot at RAF Wethersfield in the United Kingdom from 1961 to 1964.
In 1964, Captain Lynch resigned his active-duty commission and transitioned to the Air National Guard, serving with the Michigan Air National Guard and the New Jersey Air National Guard from 1964 to 1969.
Parallel to his Guard service, he launched a long career in commercial aviation. He flew as an airline pilot for Pan American Airways out of John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) from 1966 to 1991. Following Delta Air Lines' acquisition of Pan Am routes, he continued flying as a commercial pilot for Delta Air Lines out of JFK International Airport from 1991 until 1996.
