CAPTAIN LAWRENCE MALCOLM JOLLY

Lawrence Malcolm Jolly entered the United States Air Force Academy as part of its historic early era, joining Cadet Squadron 11. Known to his classmates and peers as a dedicated leader and passionate aviator, he graduated with the Class of 1959, ready to take to the skies during a crucial period of the Cold War.
MILITARY SERVICE & FLIGHT LEADERSHIP
Following graduation, Captain Jolly entered undergraduate pilot training from 1959 to 1960. Upon earning his wings, he was assigned to the 509th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Clark Air Base in the Philippines from 1961 to 1963, standing alert and flying intercept missions in the Pacific theater.
Recognized for his superior piloting skills and calm demeanor in the cockpit, he was reassigned to Randolph Air Force Base as an Instructor Pilot with the 3512th Pilot Training Squadron from 1963 to 1966, shaping the next generation of Air Force pilots.
Though he briefly resigned his active commission in 1966 to fly commercially, his commitment to service called him back to active duty in 1968. Captain Jolly stepped back into the cockpit of the legendary F-100 Super Sabre, flying with the 121st Tactical Fighter Squadron out of Myrtle Beach Air Force Base during a period of intense global operational demand. He was relieved from active duty in 1969.
COMMERCIAL AVIATION CAREER
In tandem with his military service, Captain Jolly built a distinguished 25-year career in commercial aviation with American Airlines. Beginning in 1966 out of San Francisco International Airport (SFO), he spent decades flying domestic and international routes. In 1991, he transitioned his base of operations to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), continuing his legacy of flight until his retirement.
Captain Jolly passed away on October 6, 1995, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service to his country and the aviation community.
