Career Highlights:

Donald Thomas "Tom" Chase, a proud member of the first graduating class of the United States Air Force Academy in June 1959, embarked on a 20-year career as a pilot in the USAF. His commitment to service was immediately followed by a joyful personal milestone; the very next day in Denver, Tom was wed to his lifelong sweetheart, Lois. This happy occasion mirrored similar celebrations among other pioneering graduates who also married their beloved partners that same week, marking the beginning of dual journeys in service and companionship.

Tom flew extensively with the USAF as a pilot, accumulating over 6,500 hours of flying time. During his two decades of service, he flew a variety of aircraft and was stationed all over the United States and overseas before retiring in 1979.

After his 20-year distinguished military career, Tom, Lois, and their sons moved to Alameda. Tom transitioned into a new chapter, joining his lifelong friend, Gregory Boyington Jr. (USAF Ret.), to establish a career as a residential real estate owner and investor.

Tom was consistently civic-minded throughout his life. In 1986, he became an active member of the Elks Lodge (#1015), a commitment he maintained until his passing. Never one to remain idle, Tom continuously engaged with the business world and was involved in various civic and professional organizations. These included the Association of Graduates, the Military Officers Association of America, and the Quiet Birdmen, a fraternal organization dedicated to aviators.

Beyond his professional and civic endeavors, Tom's greatest passion, second only to his wife and family, was golf. On the golf course, he was affectionately known as "The Grinder." His competitive nature was legendary; a truly good game of golf, in Tom's estimation, was one where he came home with $5 in his pocket from the side bets he invariably made. Donald Thomas Chase's life exemplified dedication to his country, his family, and a spirited engagement with both his professional and recreational pursuits.
