Cadet Squadron 8

Herbert Arnold "Herb" Adamson was born In July 1935, in Brigham City, Utah, to Herbert George and Mamie Lowe Adamson. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy’s historic Class of 1959, Herb dedicated his career to both the cockpit and the classroom. He married Stauney Francis Olson in Portland, Oregon, on December 28, 1959, shortly after graduation.

Herb’s Air Force career began with pilot training at Moore and Webb Air Force Bases from 1959 to 1960. Following his wings, he served as a B-52 pilot at Larson Air Force Base from 1961 to 1964. During this critical period of the Cold War, he flew strategic missions, including time served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

In the mid-1960s, Herb transitioned into academic instruction. He earned a degree from UCLA and returned to his alma mater, the Air Force Academy, as an Economics Instructor from 1966 to 1967. After being medically retired from the Air Force June 1967, he continued his passion for teaching as an instructor of Data Processing at Weber State College in Utah.

Herb passed away on June 8, 1968, in Salt Lake City at the age of 32, following an extended illness. He was buried with graveside honors at the Air Force Academy Cemetery on June 12, 1968. He is survived by his widow, Stauney, and their two sons, Herbert D. and Matthew.
